Soroti High Court to Handle 87 Cases in One Month

Soroti High Court Circuit started the year on a high notch with at least 87 cases set to be handled by the end of the month. 

The cases are a result of a 10-day Plea Bargaining session where 47 bargains were concluded by the Resident Judge, Hon. Justice Dr Henry Peter Adonyo on Thursday January 13, 2022.The remaining 40 cases are being handled by Hon. Justice Godfrey Namundi in Kumi.

Explaining the developments, the Court's Assistant Registrar, HW Jessica Chemeri said the Plea Bargaining session kicked off on January 3, 2022, at the Soroti Government Prison. 

"Out of the 69 files for Plea Bargaining, cause-listed, (20) were in respect to Aggravated Defilement, (15) for Murder, (6) for Rape, (5) were of Aggravated Robbery, and(1) Defilement case." 

Of the cases being handled in Kumi; 22 are in respect to Murder offences, 17 are Aggravated Defilement while one is a Rape case. 

HW Chemeri, noted that both sessions are geared towards clearing of case backlog in the Circuit.
